E.S.P. (EQ Sustainability Project)
Four years ago, rather than continuing to contracting out the sewing of our suits, EQ Swimwear opened its own manufacturing facility. Though we were able to produce suits at a higher volume and deliver them more quickly to our customers, we began to see how much waste there is in the process of production. In fact, the scrap fabric started to take up so much space, that we started to look into ways reuse or recycle it. We came up with very few options. We contacted toy manufactures to see if they could use the scraps as filling for stuffed animals, but there was no interest. When we did find interest it was generally only for larger pieces, and to us, those pieces were not scraps. So, as a collaborative effort with employees in the shop, we began to sort the scraps and lay them up to make patch worked suits. Thus E.S.P. was born.
The E. S. P. (EQ Sustainability Project) uses reclaimed fabric scraps that are often too small, or oddly shaped to make a complete swimming suit. These scrap fabrics provided an excellent opportunity to create fun, fashionable, and sustainable products for our athletes, while educating and encouraging them to be mindful to do the same. The donation of 5% of our proceeds from the sale of these suits to Mercy Corps International provides an opportunity for our company to give back to our community with gratitude and help those in need.
